RE: Opposition to HB-1236, HB-1847, and SB-859 modifications to Tax Increment Financing laws.
Dear Honorable Representative Ellington,
The Blue Valley Industrial Association (“BViA”) represents the largest industrial and commercial area within the city limits of Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 1920, the BViA currently represents over 160 business and industry leaders from more than 60 companies situated within its district.
The BViA, along with its businesses and residents, would like to express strong opposition to proposed bills HB-1236, HB-1847, and SB-859 which would modify current laws regarding Tax Increment Financing (“TIF”). TIF incentives are a vital tool utilized in the BViA area to encourage economic growth. Though development in the Blue Valley has slowly been on the rise, many blighted areas still remain within its district that simply would not be economically feasible for development if not for TIF incentives. These bills, with their intended modifications to current TIF laws would be a major detriment to the economic vitality of our Blue Valley district and the Kansas City region.
Thank you for your continued support of economic development in Kansas City and its Blue Valley district. TIF incentives are a very important piece of that support. The BViA strongly encourages you to oppose passage of these bills.
